CHARLOTTE CENTER CITY PARTNERS SUPPORTS FILMMAKING IN UPTOWN

Charlotte Center City Partners is hosting several events in Carolina Theater’s Pocket Park at 6th and Tryon in order to grow awareness for an International filmmaking competition coming to Charlotte next month. The 48 Hour Film Project is the world’s oldest and largest timed filmmaking competition which has engaged over 400,000 people in the past 10 years.

If local artists sell out the McGlohon Theater on August 21 at 6:50pm, it will be the greatest show of support for local/independent filmmaking in Charlotte history. In order to do this Charlotte 48 Hour Film Project in participation with Charlotte Center City Partners is hosting several events at Carolina Theater’s Pocket Park.

August 7th 5:30 – 7:30pm: Local actors audition for a part in one of 17 short films which will be created over the weekend of August 15 – 17. 17 local filmmakers who will compete in the Charlotte 48 Hour Film Project will be in Pocket Park scouting talent to include in their film which will have an opportunity to go on to be screened at Cannes, in Paris.

August 12th 11:30am-1:30pm: Local filmmakers will be in Pocket Park shooting a short social media film which will be released just three days before the Charlotte 48 Hour Film Project Night of Screenings. Residents of uptown are invited out to see filmmaking from start to finish as actors perform and cameras roll. Editors will be on-site as well with a computer workstation projected on a flatscreen monitor so everyone can see the editing process. The three minute film will be shared with residents and workers of uptown as a final social media push to sell out the McGlohon Theater.

About the Competition:
The mission of 48 Hour Film Project is to advance filmmaking and promote filmmakers. The tight 48 hour deadline puts the focus squarely on filmmaking, emphasizing creativity and teamwork and “doing” instead of “talking.” The emphasis is also on building communities of local creative people facilitating new connections, showcasing skills, and celebrating what creativity and teamwork can accomplish in just one weekend.
