Dilworth Now News Blog goes to the Beach

The Wedding Party

So many changes in my life I don’t know where to start...

So I will start back in July of this year we decided to make a move to North Myrtle Beach and spend an unlimited amount of time blogging about marriage, moving and new adventures in life, loving and the pursuit of happiness.

The Marriage License

The wedding of yours truly and Wayne took place on the beach at sunset September 12, 2015, with the reception at Wayne’s house in the back yard with friends and family. The honeymoon was in NYC and now we are back home in NMB settling in to our new future and planning more adventures to enjoy our new life together.

Our NYC Honeymoon
I have to say it has all been magical we are truly in love and so looking forward to the rest of our lives together.

Having blogged about everything in Charlotte, NC and abroad for several years, the transition to the beach is so exciting. I know our readers will be delighted to hear about their favorite vacation spot and what is going on in this Grand Strand Paradise. I promise to delight you with the old and the new places with lots of great photos and stories of interest up and down the Grand Strand so when you do visit you will be privy to what is new and where the locals go for food, entertainment and places of interest you may not know about.

I'll also include firsthand info on personal stories of interest to everyone.

Many friends gathered to celebrate my wedding.
Here is our Bachelorette group, ready to party.

Thank you for letting me into your space on the internet. Let me hear from you and your experiences and I will post your story and photos.

At the Beach:The Whole Food Mediterranean Grill

In search of excellence, I was cruising down Hwy 17 returning from a fabulous Yoga class at the YMCA on 62nd Ave just inside North Myrtle Beach, 37th Av S. NMB and saw a Whole Food sign. Made a U-turn and came back to discover one of the best restaurants anywhere.

Dimitri

Dimitri and Dino, owners and operators of Whole Food Mediterranean Grill, were serving lunch and told me a little bit about themselves. They moved to the beach to retire from the restaurant business in Long Island NY and got a little bored so decided to open The Whole Food Grill about 4 months ago.

Chef Dino

They are on a couple of travel websites always at the top of the list for Myrtle Beach and NMB for new and fabulous food. A lot of their success is due to the fact they prepare everything fresh and serve organic and natural ingredients. They were so gracious when I told them I wanted to blog about this gem of a find, and they invited me to lunch. Lucky me.

A jewel of a restaurant

I had fresh baked pita bread (all the difference from packaged), homemade organic hummus, falafel cake, oh my to die for, spinach pie. I have had spinach pie before but this was so superior in every way. The organic yogurt sauce was a new taste for me and as I dipped my dolma in the sauce and savored the flavors I knew I had found something big.

They have all the usual Mediterranean dishes, including Gyros and Souvlaki, plus burgers made with organic beef and a variety of meatless burgers.

Egglemon soup

I’ll be going back to try the tofu and sundried tomato burger, Lentil and Beets, Black Bean and Portobello Burger. I could go on about the Dinners, Apps and salads but I will save that as a surprise for you when you stop by and please give them my regards. Isn’t it wonderful when all your taste buds and senses are satisfied with something that is so good for you?

At the Beach: Some Tips on How to Stay Healthy on Vacation

We take our health very seriously, but think life should also be fun. Here are some of the spots where we've found great ways to stay healthy as well as some great new friends in our new location.

CLEANSING POWER AT THE BEACH

If you are a worshiper of alkaline water like we are you can fill up your water bottles and jugs at CLEANSING POWER AT THE BEACH, 112 Ye Olde Kings Hwy. North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. It’s right behind Bettie JO’s alterations on 2nd Ave North.

We met Susan Bullins the owner and operator of Cleansing Power a few years ago in search of ionized alkaline water so we would not have to bring water with us from Charlotte. Susan is a Certified Natural Health Practitioner and has her offices right here in North Myrtle Beach. She offers a lot more than just the water we love. She has an extensive array of supplements, treatments and services for all your health needs all under one roof. Not to mention she is one of the most loving and generous ladies around.

BAY NATURALS

Juice Bar extraordinaire. We love to juice. When you are on vacation and want to consume something that you know is getting to every cell of your body, fresh squeezed juice is what I go in search of. Bay Naturals right here in NMB is one of the best I have ever been too. There is not a veggie or a fruit that I love they don’t have and of course all the protein and extras that we love for boosts of energy. And if you run out of vitamins or supplements they have all the tried and true companies for the quality products you are used to.

Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA

5000 Claire Chapin Epps Drive
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577

Venturing south on Hwy. 17 from North Myrtle Beach all the way down to 62nd Ave we discovered the YMCA. Being members at the Dowd YMCA in Charlotte NC for many years we are delighted to say the Myrtle Beach YMCA is the closest thing we have found in this area to what we are used to in Charlotte.

We love the Yoga, Zumba and Pilates classes. The strength training classes are great and innovative. We also find the instructors to be above the usual when visiting out of town so if it is a good work out you are looking for try this YMCA.

There is a $5.00 daily charge if you are a member anywhere else and for seniors who have Humana insurance, membership is paid for by Humana which is news to us.

I especially love Yoga classes with Tam. Pilates has always been my choice for staying in shape.

Molly’s Facial Studio

Little River, SC 29566

Molly Mindek
Searching for a personal really great facial we hit the jackpot. Molly Mindek definitely is at the top of our list. She is located conveniently on Hwy 90 as you leave Hwy 17 going into Little River SC about three miles from Main St. in Ocean Drive. I promise it is worth the drive.

Her salon is intimate and private. Molly makes you feel right at home relaxes you for a true European Treatment. She massaged, extracted, lotioned and creamed my face, neck and decolletage for an hour of pure bliss. Her cool touch has me returning in a few weeks for more, not to mention my skin looks and feels like velvet. So ladies and gentlemen if you love great skin care she is the one.

At the Beach: 710 BOWLING

This is one of the newer places in NMB for the whole family to dine, play and experience a new way of spending time together and have everything at your fingertips for food, bowling, board games, table games, cocktails and live entertainment. WOW that is saying a lot but no kidding, all under one roof for the active and the lounging spectator.

710 has bowling and many other games

My experience was people watching, seeing how much fun everyone was having and how roomy and spread out everything was. There were folks of all ages in groups and singles enjoying each other, the casual atmosphere and above all the friendliness one finds in this type of atmosphere.

Familes having a great time.

The convenience of food being served wherever you might be sitting was great and oh the food was amazing. Their Executive Chef Greg Lewis came out and chatted with us about his menu. Greg said “I wanted to create a menu that would appeal to everyone so I prepare our apps and entrees to fit in to all tastes and likes.”

We personally had the fried green tomatoes which I always try if I am lucky enough to see them on the menu. And of course the wedge salad, my favorite. The two apps made a perfect meal and were delicious and prepared to perfection.

We also ordered wine by the glass under $5 and found it perfectly paired with our food served in elegant monogrammed wine glasses, which I love.

Boar's Head sandwich and wine

We saw something I had not seen served at the bar, a beer tube with tap for serving 100 oz of beer for $15 domestic and $25 craft which offers four people four glasses of beer, great deal. Did not try the loaded Duck Fat Fries but heard everyone say they were awesome.

Also while we were there they were having a Corn Hole Contest with prizes. The ping pong tables and pool tables were all full. The kids were beating their parents at just about everything.

We loved the friendly atmosphere and how everyone intermingles and talks to one another so refreshing did not see anyone on their cell phone, hallelujah.

So on your next visit to N Myrtle stop in and enjoy.
