At the Beach: Some Tips on How to Stay Healthy on Vacation

We take our health very seriously, but think life should also be fun. Here are some of the spots where we've found great ways to stay healthy as well as some great new friends in our new location.

CLEANSING POWER AT THE BEACH

If you are a worshiper of alkaline water like we are you can fill up your water bottles and jugs at CLEANSING POWER AT THE BEACH, 112 Ye Olde Kings Hwy. North Myrtle Beach, SC 29582. It’s right behind Bettie JO’s alterations on 2nd Ave North.

We met Susan Bullins the owner and operator of Cleansing Power a few years ago in search of ionized alkaline water so we would not have to bring water with us from Charlotte. Susan is a Certified Natural Health Practitioner and has her offices right here in North Myrtle Beach. She offers a lot more than just the water we love. She has an extensive array of supplements, treatments and services for all your health needs all under one roof. Not to mention she is one of the most loving and generous ladies around.

BAY NATURALS

NORTH MYRTLE BEACH, SC 29582

Juice Bar extraordinaire. We love to juice. When you are on vacation and want to consume something that you know is getting to every cell of your body, fresh squeezed juice is what I go in search of. Bay Naturals right here in NMB is one of the best I have ever been too. There is not a veggie or a fruit that I love they don’t have and of course all the protein and extras that we love for boosts of energy. And if you run out of vitamins or supplements they have all the tried and true companies for the quality products you are used to.

Claire Chapin Epps Family YMCA

5000 Claire Chapin Epps Drive
Myrtle Beach, SC 29577
843 449 9622

Venturing south on Hwy. 17 from North Myrtle Beach all the way down to 62nd Ave we discovered the YMCA. Being members at the Dowd YMCA in Charlotte NC for many years we are delighted to say the Myrtle Beach YMCA is the closest thing we have found in this area to what we are used to in Charlotte.

We love the Yoga, Zumba and Pilates classes. The strength training classes are great and innovative. We also find the instructors to be above the usual when visiting out of town so if it is a good work out you are looking for try this YMCA.

There is a $5.00 daily charge if you are a member anywhere else and for seniors who have Humana insurance, membership is paid for by Humana which is news to us.

I especially love Yoga classes with Tam. Pilates has always been my choice for staying in shape.

Molly’s Facial Studio

Customized European Facials
281 Hwy 90 East Unit B
Little River, SC 29566
843 249 9600
Molly Mindek
Searching for a personal really great facial we hit the jackpot. Molly Mindek definitely is at the top of our list. She is located conveniently on Hwy 90 as you leave Hwy 17 going into Little River SC about three miles from Main St. in Ocean Drive. I promise it is worth the drive.

Her salon is intimate and private. Molly makes you feel right at home relaxes you for a true European Treatment. She massaged, extracted, lotioned and creamed my face, neck and decolletage for an hour of pure bliss. Her cool touch has me returning in a few weeks for more, not to mention my skin looks and feels like velvet. So ladies and gentlemen if you love great skin care she is the one.

Happy Holidays to all of you fitness fans (or at least I hope you are)!

Linda and I were talking this morning after class about some ideas on how to survive the holidays. You know how it goes. You bounce from party to party, eating and drinking things you generally don't eat at other times of the year. And to make matters worse, you don't have a lot of time to work off the excess calories. So when January hits, you are behind the eight ball trying to lose those holiday pounds. Here are some simple tips to help you stay on track, enjoy the holidays guilt free, and kick your New Year off the right way.

1.) Before heading to a party, eat a light, healthy meal before you go. That way you won't over indulge on the "yummy bad stuff."

2.) Want to know how many calories are really in egg nog, or those Christmas cookies? Keep track of your food intake with the MyFitness Pal app. Very simple to use! Click here to create your free account.

3.) Stay hydrated. Drink up to 64 ounces of liquids to help keep your energy levels up throughout the day. It will also help lessen those nasty "after" effects of alcohol.

4.) Exercise when and where you can. Try to get 20 minutes, three times a week of exercise. The ideal would be to engage in both strength training and cardiovascular exercise to help burn those extra calories. But if all you have time for is a brief walk at lunch time, then get out and do it. Something is better than nothing!

5.) Avoid the stress of the holidays by setting some time aside just for you. Get a massage, have a manicure, enjoy a bubble bath, watch an old movie, or even take a yoga class. Whatever makes you happy and relaxed!

If you would like more information on how to get started, or update your current fitness program, you can contact me at demisfit2000@gmail.com.

Take care and Happy Holidays!
Yours in health,
Demi
